Advocacy - Abolish the Electoral College

On Tuesday, December 9, the League of Women Voters Deerfield/Lincolnshire's ad hoc inter-state, inter-League Electoral College Committee was honored with the Jonathan D. Blake Leadership Award by the "Making Every Vote Count" Foundation. https://www.makingeveryvotecount.com Rosemary Heilemann accepted the award on behalf of the committee.

LWV of the U.S. President Dianna Wynn spoke warmly about our group as an example of the grassroots strength and agility of the League of Women Voters.

The Committee has been meeting monthly (now on Zoom) since 2017 and we typically have League members in attendance from 15 - 20 different states and 5-12 different Illinois Leagues. Our goal is to educate the public about the reasons why the electoral college system for electing the U.S. President and Vice-President should be abolished by Constitutional amendment. We go about this by training League members to give presentations in their communities. We schedule informational speakers so our members can increase their knowledge base, and we offer individualized trainings to League members who want to start giving the official slideshow, "Why We Should Abolish the Electoral College," in their states.

The League of Women Voters Deerfield/Lincolnshire Electoral College Committee meets monthly and has attendees from Leagues in as many as 20 states. We offer training and education to members so they can give the official LWVUS "Why We Should Abolish the Electoral College" slideshow to community groups throughout the US.

Our LWVDL EC committee has multiple printed copies of this brochure available. We are also happy to come to your group to give our slideshow presentation in person, locally, or on Zoom. Join our local League and become a presenter, yourself!
